The programme is built around three blocks. The pre-hospital environment covers the role of FPOS, scene safety, minimising the risk of infection and post-incident procedures. Scene management covers safety triage, patient assessment, communicating with patients, primary survey and safe moving and handling. Further modules cover respiration and airway management, basic life support, defibrillation, circulation and shock, bleeding, injuries to bones, joints and the head, spinal and pelvic injuries and medical emergencies.

A leading UK security company responsible for one of London's premier entertainment parks commissioned an FPOS programme. They had identified the need to respond to medical emergencies in large crowd situations, where access during crowd build up can be an issue and time to respond to illness or accident is crucial.
We trained small classes of 6 to 10 so we could give one to one coaching alongside instruction. Participants already had experience of emergency response at public entertainment venues, the calibre was high and the course achieved a 100 percent pass rate. the SIA requires Close Protection licence applicants to hold a recognised first aid qualification at or above First Aid at Work level before starting their licence linked training, and FPOS has historically been accepted. Check the current SIA list of acceptable qualifications before relying on it.
Yes. FPOS builds on existing first aid knowledge, so delegates are expected to have previous experience and a valid first aid certificate such as First Aid at Work.
They are closely related. First Response Emergency Care Level 3 (FREC 3) is the regulated qualification that many providers now deliver in place of the older FPOS Intermediate award, covering similar pre-hospital skills. CONFIRM: which award Safe and Trained certificates against.
FPOS and equivalent pre-hospital awards are normally valid for 3 years, with annual skills refreshers recommended for anyone operating in a response role.
